Building Adaptive Leaders

At lead.change we help leaders build the skills and habits that will support their teams to perform and thrive in today’s working environment of constant change and complexity.

This is why we focus on Adaptive Leadership: the current context for organisations requires a shift in mindset and an evolved skillset to truly add value as a leader.

We don’t focus on leaders having one “style” – our belief is that the modern working environment requires more than a static style. We need adaptable leaders who understand their context, and who are agile in their approach in supporting and leading their people.

We define adaptive leadership as “Understanding your context and what your team/ organisation needs from you, to create an environment where people can do their best work and adapt to emerging challenges.”

Having a baseline of technical competence is just a ticket to the game - the most successful leaders know that it is their ability to create the right conditions for performance, and to get the best thinking and contribution from their team that will be their ultimate success.

Our established Adaptive Leadership programmes and team interventions help leaders develop the mindset and skillset of an Adaptive Leader at three levels :

  1.  Adapting to context: What strategic challenges are we facing - how should I lead in my particular context? How do I develop my situational awareness and translate this into the leadership role I need to play?

  2. Enabling the team: How should I lead and build capability to enable my team to deliver? How can I help them best navigate the adaptive challenges we are facing?

  3. Creating an environment for individual performance: How do I create the conditions where people perform and are motivated to bring their best?

These perspectives build the uniquely human skills that will help leaders:

  • Sustain performance while having the critical conversations that move things forward

  • Influence and collaborate across teams

  • Provide sturdy leadership through change.
